Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially become a user of Truth Social, the social media app owned by U.S. President Donald Trump’s media company. Modi’s first post included old photo with Trump from 2019 Howdy, Modi! event in Houston, Texas.
Enthusiastically, Modi put down on paper, “Happy to be on Truth Social! Anticipating getting to know all the passionate voices here and getting into significant conversations.”
Modi later posts personally thanking Trump for sharing his recent interview with podcaster Lex Fridman. “Thank you my dear friend President Trump,” Modi wrote, referring to the three-hour conversation that ranged from his own personal story to India’s civilisational perspective and global issues.

A Trump Media & Technology Group Corp, owner of Truth Social, welcomed the Indian leader. “The addition of Prime Minister Modi to Truth Social and his interaction with our rapidly expanding community highly valued by us”, the company said.
It isn’t the first instance of PM Modi using social media for his diplomatic outreach too. In 2015 Modi opened a Weibo account for the first time, a Chinese social media platform where he was very active until pulling out in 2020 within weeks of India and China’s border clash.
Their Truth Social platform, created after Trump was banned from Twitter in 2021, still remains Trump’s preferred social outlet after his reinstatement on X by Elon Musk. Even with 6M MTH, $3.6M in income statements for 2024, the platform still does not comply with India’s strict rules on social media which are enacted under the IT Rules, 2021.
