U.S. Halts Intelligence Sharing with Ukraine Amid Trump-Zelenskyy Rift

United States has halted intelligence sharing with Ukraine through a temporary halt after bitter feud erupted between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, CIA Director John Ratcliffe revealed on Wednesday.

The fallout, which followed a tense Oval Office meeting last week, also resulted in a halt to U.S. military aid to Kyiv, a major body blow to Ukraine as its military presses on against Russian forces. Ratcliffe called the intelligence buys pause temporary, adding, “The United States will once again march hand in hand with Ukraine.”

President Trump apparently expressed doubt over Zelenskyy’s commitment to the peace process as he raised doubts about Ukraine’s willingness for negotiations with Moscow. In response, Zelenskyy has sought to make amends, saying sorry for the dispute and stressing Ukraine’s openness for the talks.

Trump mentioned to Congress Tuesday morning that he had a letter from Zelenskyy, in which the Ukrainian leader addressed his nation’s desire for peace. It is “No one wants peace more than Ukrainians,” the letter said.

The break has evoked a loud response from European allies, who reconfirmed their backing for Ukraine. Meanwhile, geopolitical analysts say the suspension of spying could hurt Ukraine’s military at a time when it is hardest to protect itself from Russia.

With diplomatic tensions escalating, the world waits for the next step in the U.S.-Ukraine relationship.
