A tragic hotel resort construction project in South Korean Busan saw flames destroy the site on Friday while causing six deaths between the injured twenty-five workers. The fires broke out from insulation materials around a first-story indoor swimming pool building and released vast amounts of smoke that led to the evacuation of around 100 workers.
The Busan Fire & Disaster Headquarters reported that the fire quickly consumed the whole 12-story complex consisting of three underground levels. Firefighters extracted fourteen rooftop workers by helicopter before minor injuries from smoke exposure affected the remaining employees.
All resources were deployed by Acting President Choi Sang-mok to battle the outbreak as he stressed the critical nature of the emergency. Fire rescue personnel continued fighting against the massive fire until they gained full control over it.
The disastrous event has sparked concerns about safety protocols at South Korean construction sites resulting in multiple experts demanding stricter safety regulations. A national probe launched by authorities seeks to identify the origin of the fire while South Korea mourns all the victims of this fatal disaster.
