A Trump administration deferred buyout program has enabled 75,000 U.S. federal employees to accept the program according to U.S. Office of Personnel Management spokesperson communications. Federal employees receiving this administration buyout from President Donald Trump accept regular salary and benefits through October under non-work conditions. Future payments under the program remain uncertain after March 14 because the existing spending laws will expire.

The civilian workforce reduction plan of Trump centers around the buyout program as he views the civil service to be inefficient and to exhibit bias against his administration. 2.3 million personnel make up the target audience of the program but multiple agencies have started preparing to reduce their workforce by between 70% and 100%. The employees who recently joined the workforce have experienced forceful reductions in several departments because they do not have complete job stability.
The unions warn their members to decline the opportunity because past evidence demonstrates that the Trump administration cannot maintain its promises. Trump brought on billionaire Elon Musk to take charge of the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency which aims to eliminate $1 trillion from federal spending. The total $6.75 trillion federal budget includes civilian worker salaries which represent only 5% of the whole budget yet some critics doubt what those budget reductions will mean for public government operations.
Thousands of federal employees await their future because the protests against the downsizing plan persist while the administration’s agreements are at risk.
