JD Vance as Vice President achieved a unique position in the White House by obtaining unrestricted control to choose staff members who would work for him without presidential or senior aide interference. The high level of trust Trump has in Vance demonstrates his expectation that Vance will run for president in 2028.
The administration confirms that Vance recruited all his significant staff members from his Senate campaign and his previous office work. Vance included just two people who were not previous employees among the initial 11 senior staff he selected for his administration.
Jai Chabria commended the team-building strategy noting “They decided to create a team with JD’s team and during this process they succeeded in obtaining dedicated staff members who would do anything for the president.” 
Three members of Vance’s core team use the same positions in the vice president’s office that they previously occupied in his Senate administration. Reses serves as Vance’s Senate chief of staff and now holds this role at the vice president’s office alongside his deputy Bryan Gray and Jacob Reses. Under his direction these trusted members of his communications team—William Martin, Luke Schroeder and Taylor Van Kirk—have progressed to similar positions.
The Trump administration follows a different strategy than past administrations since vice presidents lacked independence from White House oversight. The ability of Vice President Mike Pence to select his own staff faced significant scrutiny in contrast to how Vance performs this task independently today.
The growing political ambitions of Vance have sparked wide-ranging speculation due to his current rise of power in the administration. The internal infrastructure he has built along with strong backing from Trump indicates his potential presidential ambitions in 2028.
